If you’re looking for a wedding venue in the Sussex countryside that’s full of character, Hendall Manor Barns is definitely one to consider. Combining beautiful historic buildings with relaxed outdoor spaces, it’s a venue that feels intimate, private and incredibly picturesque.
As a Sussex wedding videographer, it’s exactly the kind of venue I love filming at. Everything is close enough that the day flows naturally, while still giving us plenty of different backdrops and spaces to capture.
The Historic Manor House & Orchard
One of the first things you notice at Hendall is the beautiful historic manor house. It gives the venue so much character and makes a brilliant backdrop for establishing shots throughout a wedding film.
Just outside, the orchard is one of my favourite areas for couple shots. It’s a lovely space to escape to for ten or fifteen minutes together without feeling like you’ve disappeared from your own wedding.
My approach to couple shots is always relaxed and natural rather than heavily posed, and the orchard works perfectly for this. A little wander through the trees is usually all we need to capture some beautiful footage while giving you a chance to enjoy a quiet moment together.
The 17th Century Stone Barn
The heart of a Hendall Manor Barns wedding is the incredible 17th-century stone barn, which hosts the wedding reception and dining.
With its exposed beams, stone walls and historic character, there’s already so much atmosphere built into the room before you add any wedding styling.
From a videography perspective, it’s also a great space for capturing the reception naturally. I can move around unobtrusively during the meal and speeches, picking up reactions, laughter and all those little moments happening between guests without becoming part of the action myself.
Cocktail Hour at The Old Dairy
Another lovely feature of Hendall is The Old Dairy, which gives guests somewhere to mingle and enjoy drinks during cocktail hour.
I love this part of a wedding day because it’s often where some of the most natural footage comes from. Everyone has relaxed after the ceremony, drinks are flowing and guests are catching up, laughing and enjoying themselves.
Having a dedicated space like The Old Dairy makes it perfect for capturing those candid moments that help a wedding film feel like a genuine reflection of the day rather than a collection of staged shots.
