If you’re looking for a beautiful countryside wedding venue in Sussex, The Ravenswood is definitely one to have on your list. Set amongst acres of countryside, with gorgeous gardens, characterful buildings and plenty of little hidden spots to explore, it’s a venue that offers something different around almost every corner.
As a Sussex wedding videographer, I’m always drawn to venues that give couples plenty of variety without needing to disappear for ages to get great footage. The Ravenswood is brilliant for exactly that. There are so many lovely locations around the grounds for photos and video, while everything still feels close enough that you can spend most of your wedding day where you should be: celebrating with your guests!
It’s one of my favourite wedding venues in Sussex to film at, so here are a few of the reasons why.
So Many Beautiful Spots for Couple Shots
One of my favourite things about filming a wedding at The Ravenswood is just how many options there are when it comes to couple shots.
I specialise in relaxed, candid wedding films, so I’m never looking to take couples away from their guests for a huge staged photoshoot. Instead, I love heading out for a short wander, letting you enjoy a little bit of time together while capturing everything naturally as we go.
And The Ravenswood gives us plenty to work with.
The rustic wooden boathouse is a particularly lovely spot and gives us something completely different from the rest of the grounds. With the water, surrounding greenery and character of the wooden building itself, it makes a gorgeous backdrop for some quiet shots together.
There are also spots where you can look back across the whole venue, which are perfect for those wider, cinematic shots that really establish where you spent your wedding day.
Then there’s the Secret Garden, another lovely little pocket of the venue that feels tucked away from everything else. It’s perfect if you want a few more intimate shots without feeling like you’ve wandered miles away from the party.
One of my personal favourites, though, is the wooden swing. Not only does it make for some really relaxed couple footage, but its position means you can look back towards your guests mingling around the venue. I love this because your couple shots still feel connected to the wedding itself rather than looking like a completely separate photoshoot.
A Great Space for Getting Ready
The morning of a wedding is one of my favourite parts of the day to capture. There’s usually a brilliant mixture of excitement, nerves and laughter.
The Ravenswood has a spacious getting-ready room, giving everyone enough room to prepare without feeling crammed together. From a videography perspective, having that extra space makes a huge difference. It allows me to move around quietly and capture the little moments happening throughout the morning without getting in anyone’s way.
There’s also a cottage at the venue, providing another lovely space for wedding preparations and helping both sides of the wedding morning feel like part of the same story.
These spaces are perfect for capturing everything from hair and makeup and those final finishing touches to gifts, reactions and the moment everyone sees you fully ready for the first time.
Perfect for Natural, Unobtrusive Wedding Videography
Another reason I love filming weddings at The Ravenswood is the amount of space available throughout the venue.
The large dining and reception area works particularly well during the speeches. There’s plenty of room for me to find different angles without needing to stand directly in front of guests or constantly move around.
That’s really important to the way I film weddings. I want you and your guests to enjoy the day without feeling like there’s a camera permanently hovering around you.
The same applies once the tables are cleared and the dancing begins. Having a spacious reception area means I can capture everything happening on the dance floor, as well as all the reactions and little moments around it, while remaining as unobtrusive as possible.
Why I Recommend The Ravenswood for Sussex Weddings
For me, a great wedding venue isn't just about having one beautiful backdrop. It’s about how the venue works throughout the entire day.
The Ravenswood has spaces for the quieter moments in the morning, beautiful surroundings for couple shots, plenty of room for guests to relax and mingle, and a fantastic reception space for speeches and dancing later in the evening.
From a wedding videographer’s perspective, that variety means I can create a film that changes naturally as the day unfolds. We can go from intimate getting-ready moments to wide countryside shots, candid footage of guests enjoying themselves and, eventually, a packed dance floor.
Most importantly, you don't have to spend half your wedding day posing for the camera to get a beautiful wedding film.
